Letter from the Desk of The President

FROM THE DESK OF PRESIDENT WILL TOOLEN

Brothers and Sisters, I write to you during these unprecedented times and hope this finds you in a healthy state. I want you to know that the NJLESA understands the work everyone is putting in on a day to day basis at their facilities. I assure you that your union leadership is working diligently behind the scenes day and night. As always, your leadership is only a call away for all your concerns.

A quick update of what your union has been working on since day 1 include:

  • Successfully negotiated the screening of employees is being conducted properly

  • Successfully negotiated that all members are receiving proper PPE when dealing with COVID related inmates

  • Taking part of daily conference call with the DOC

  • Successfully negotiated the elimination of institutional inmate transfers

  • Successfully negotiated the ensuring of halfway house inmates that are transferred back into the facilities go through a quarantine process

  • Successfully negotiated for all inmates at CRAF go through a quarantine process

  • Demanding for the implementation of “Hazzard Pay”

  • Demanding for the implementation of a statewide “lock-down”

  • Demanding for the DOC to begin the manufacturing of mask for inmates for our protection

  • Demanding an elimination of double bunking in the facilities

  • Monitoring what other state and federal agencies are doing for best practices here in NJ

  • Successfully negotiated all transfers to and from all RCRP centers cease

All of the above are just examples of the many issues we are working on to ensure your shift goes as safely as possible. Again, your union leadership appreciates you; we see all the hard work you are putting in and understand that the unknown is nerve-racking. The executive board and representatives are working hard for you, addressing your concerns; rest assured these matters are not falling on deaf ears.

Thanking you again for the sacrifices you are making and as always stay safe and keep practicing extra precautions. We will get through this as a union and remember, there is no UNION without U and I.

Sincerely,

Will Toolen
President, NJLESA

CC: Executive Board
